Mrs. Braymen’s Fourth Grade
I hope everyone had a wonderful summer. I am excited to begin a new school year with a great group of kids! I have high expectations for all the learning and thinking that is going to take place, and I am looking forward to sharing the progress with you. I want to inform you of some of the lessons and general information we will be covering as your child begins fourth grade.
Our First Days Together, At A Glance…
The first few days together will be very important! Students will become familiar and comfortable with their new teacher and classmates, learn classroom expectations, and begin to learn about various subjects. Throughout the first few weeks the class and I will have many conversations about the importance of choosing “good fit books.” Along with choosing books, the students and I will be creating a reading salad, where we discuss how real reading is a combination of text and thinking about the author’s message, just like a salad is a combination of lettuce and various toppings. Students will also learn how to leave tracks of their thinking, so they can share experiences as readers. Since the amount of time students are given to read significantly determines progress, students will be building up stamina to read independently for large amounts of time. Math will be another important item. We have had all summer to relax; therefore, students will be warming up their mathematical brains with various games and practice. In order to keep actively engaged the class will be conducting fun class building and team building exercises where we will be moving around the room. As you can see our class is going to be busy!
Assessments
I will be conducting various reading and math assessments with all students throughout the first weeks of school. These assessments will guide my instruction, and the results will be shared!
If you have any questions or concerns feel free to call, email, or stop by my room. Thanks for all of your support!
